(Dad and boys put tent up)
“Alright, guys! Great teamwork!” (Dad high-fives both boys)
“Let’s go get some wood for our fire! We’re having hotdogs, chips…”
“And smores!?!” Elisha yelled with excitement.
“Yes, and s’mores tonight,” Dad said laughing and shaking his head.
All have wood in their hand…heading back to their tent.[1] [2] [3]
“Oh man!” Dad said rubbing his head.
“Hey! What happened?!” Duce yelled confused.
“Our tent! Who did this?” Elisha yelled looking around, only to see other families around their tents not paying attention to their collapsed tent.
“It’s okay boys. This happens sometimes. The first time I went camping with your uncles we had to pitch our tent three times before it finally stayed.”
“Ewww! What’s that smell!?” Duce yelled covering his nose on the other side of the tent.
Dad went over to smell… “Ahhh… smells like a little friend was here and probably is one of the reasons the tent fell.”
“See, Duce! I told you there were skunks here!” Elisha yelled scared and nervous.
“Hey! Hey! Relax, Elisha. We’re in nature. There are all kinds of animals roaming around, but nothing to be afraid of. We can just repitch the tent again, no biggy.” Dad said reassuring Elisha with his hand around his shoulder.
“Ugh! It takes so long Dad! I just want to start our fire.” Duce said annoyed.
“And we will once we work together to get this tent back up. It looks like this side was a little wet. Let’s move the tent a little this way and repitch it. Remember, dry and flat ground.”
“Okaaaaay…” The boys responded in a very annoyed manner.
“Yeah! That’s what I’m talking about! Now we should have no more problems. Let’s get the fire started!” Dad said proud and excited.
The boys ran and grabbed the wood they found earlier and brought it over to their fire bit area to their dad. They sat around the campfire roasting s’mores and hotdogs laughing.
“Dad! Did you hear that noise over there?” Duce said nervously.
“What noise, son?” Dad asked as he put his hotdog in a bun.
“I heard laughing. But it was weird laughing.” Duce said confused. Elisha looked at him with wide nervous eyes.
“Duce other people are here camping, too. Come on, eat up.”
AT THE FIREPIT (TENT IS ADJACENT)[4]
“Daddy this is so much fun! I love s’mores! And hotdogs!” Elisha said with a mouth full of s’mores and a hotdog on a stick in his hand.
Dad smiles, “Me too son! You alright Duce?”
“Yeah.Just thinking about those laughs I heard earlier. Do you think there are monsters here Dad?”
“Of course not! (Flashing his flashlight) See! No one over here but us!” (Scary Dinosaur and Stinky Skunk are behind the bushes out of sight.
“Yeah! And if there is, Daddy will kick their butts!” Elisha acting like he’s doing Tae Kwon Do.
Everyone laughs.
“Duce we are okay. Remember, when I was scared about coming and you said we would be okay? Look how much fun we are having. We are fine!” Elisha said, now reassuring his big brother.
“Okay. Okay. You’re right, E. I’m trippin’.” Duce says eating the s’more his dad handed him.
“Alright boys. Let’s get ready for bed. We’re fishing tomorrow and have to get up early to get the best fish!” Dad said excitedly putting out the fire.
“Yay! Fishing!” Both boys shouted with their hands in the air.
Change into pajamas and inside of tent laying down together. [5]
“Can we tell scary stories, Dad?” Duced asked excitedly with a flashlight in his hand.
“Sure! You start!” Dad said yawning under his sleeping bag.
Duce: “Once upon a time there was a dad and his sons on their very first camping trip.”
E: “And they built a tent and ate a lot of food that mommy would be mad about it.”
“Your turn Dad…”
Dad snoring, boys laughing…
Boys told stories until they fell asleep.
FISHING WITH FRIENDS![6]
“Rise and shine, boys! Get dressed! It’s time to go fishing!” Dad said grinning with excitement for the day ahead.
Boys rubbing eyes, “Okay Dad! Here we come!” Duce said.
“Now boys, remember, when we’re fishing, we have to remember to be quiet. We don’t want to scare the fish away by yelling or talking loud, alright?”
“Can we whisper?” Elisha said quietly.
“Yes, E. We can whisper. And you guys can tell me all those scary stories you told last night when I fell asleep.” BOYS LAUGHING but hurrying to cover their mouths so the fish wouldn’t hear them.
“Daddy! It’s hard to hold this fishing pole!” Elisha said struggling with his fishing pole annoyed.
Dad jumped up excitedly: “E! You may have a fish! Let me see!”
“It IS A FISH! I caught a fish! Look!” Elisha yelled.
“Yay! E! You caught a fish!” Duce jumped and clapped with excitement for his little brother.
“And it’s a BIG ONE! This will be some good eatin’ tonight!” Dad said holding the fish grinning.
“We have to eat it?! Whhhyyyy?” Elisha said sadly.
“Duh, E! That’s what you do when you fish! Eat the fish you catch! How else we gone have dinner tonight?” Duce said in snarky tone.
“Why can’t it be our pet? We can take care of it. Mommy will let me keep it. I just know it!” Elisha asked holding the fish in the net.
“E, we will get you another fish when we get home that isn’t from this lake. This one is for dinner.” Dad said as he grabbed the fish from Elisha and put the fish in the cooler.
“Really Daddy? Promise?” Elisha says reluctant to believe his Dad.
“Yes, E. I promise. Let me talk to your mom about it when we get home.” Dad says smiling at Elisha.
